Try as They Might 39, 40, 41, 42, and 43

"Who-you saved us?!" Kokoro said in disbelief after examining Drake's towering form and Chompy's carcass. "That I did. You wouldn't have lasted in there much longer." Drake replies matter-of-factly, though she took some measure of pride in Kokoro's immense gratitude. "That's incredible, I thought we were going to die any moment in there..." The Asian beauty remarked somberly, her eyes dropping to the floor as she rose to her feet. She was a bit shaky at first, but Kokoro was able to stand without much difficulty soon after. "So what now?" She asked as she honestly had no idea what to do from there. "Well, Drake's niece has somehow wandered onto the grounds and we need to find her. She suggested we help her look, and I think that'd be best. I'm not very fond of waiting around here for something else to get the drop on us." Lara told her as the three women gathered in front of the bedroom door. 

Drake outlined the plan, simple as it was. Lara and Kokoro were to stick close and keep an eye out for anything suspcious, but under no circumstance were they to separate themselves. "I've only got 17 shots, and they need to last. I'm sure Karin came armed as well, but knowing her, she probably didn't bring much in the way of firearms." Drake merely shook her head in frustration at the thought of Karin. What am I going to do with that girl? "We're ready anytime you are." Lara said as the three women prepared to venture out into the manor. 

The eastern hall was clear as they exited the room, much to everyone's relief. They emerged in the foyer as Drake took point with Kokoro in the middle and Lara bringing up the rear. "It's getting darker in here, someone must be tampering with the lights." Drake stated to Lara as it was slightly difficult to see in the darkened room. (For the purposes of good screenshots, I kept the lighting at a normal state in the picture, but it is indeed darkened in the foyer at the moment.) They cautiously climbed down the stairs, directly into calamity. 

Drake hadn't noticed the massive pod that had grown to the right of the stairs, shrouded as it was by shadows. Four fleshy flaps opened on at its peak, and small, nightmarish creatures emerged from it. "What the-" Drake barely heard the tiny growls in time, evading one of the headcrabs as it lunged for her face. She fired two shots and killed the thing, but it was quickly followed by another. "Come on!" Drake ordered the others, rushing ahead to escape the immediate danger. "Aaah!" Kokoro screamed as she wrestled away one of the headcrabs. She caught it in midair and threw it across the room but stumbled off the stairs during the fight. She lay exposed on the ground as two more of the ghouls set their sights on her. The pod that birthed the headcrabs seemed to be sentient as well as it slowly extended a tentacle toward Kokoro's curvaceous form.

Lara contended with her own problems. Hidden to the left of the stairs was a bipedal, frog-like creature with a gaping maw. It grabbed Lara with its massive hand and separated her from the others, seeking to make the archaeologist its next meal. "It won't be that easy!" Lara barked, swiftly freeing herself from its grasp. She adopted a ready stance in preparation for a battle with the abomination, believing herself capable of emerging victorious. 

Drake watched the situation devolve rapidly and the two women fight for their lives. Shit! Again?! Easy come, easy go, as it had been for Drake, only possessing enough time to aid one of the women. She must make a choice, she could only save one while still having enough time to find Karin. This is my fault! If I had left them in the room, none of this would have happened...

A) Endeavor to rescue Kokoro, Drake can fire at the two headcrabs and pull her to safety before the pod snatches her up. She doesn't deserve to die here, but Lara will have to fend for herself against the gamma. (90% chance of success, 20% of Kokoro being devoured if she is helped, 10% chance of Drake being devoured or 40% chance of Drake being devoured if the first roll fails, 70% chance of Kokoro being devoured if she isn't helped or the first roll fails)

B) Distract the gamma so Lara can get away, Drake knows Lara can handle herself, but she might have bitten off more than she can chew at the moment. It'd be cruel for her to perish in her own home, but that would mean leaving Kokoro to her fate. (90% chance of success, 10% chance of Lara being devoured if she is helped, 5% chance of Drake being devoured or 30% chance of Drake being devoured if the first roll fails, 50% chance of Lara being devoured if she isn't helped.)

C) Flee for her life, Drake has done as much as she can for the two women, it's up to them to fend for themselves despite Drake having dragged from safety. (Drake will proceed to search for Karin and perhaps return later to inspect the aftermath of this situation.)

"Hold on! I'll get you out of there!" Karin couldn't sit back as Sophie was dangled over the center of the carnivorous plant. She hastily drew her handgun and fired four shots at the plant's center bulb. Yellow liquid shot out of the wounds, but it didn't have the desired effect on the plant. It suddenly tossed Sophie into the air as if in response to being shot. "Aaaaahhh!" The blonde woman screamed while soaring high into the air. "Damn it!" Karin swore and attempted to step in to help as Sophie feel into the plant's clutches yet again, but it would have none of that. A large, thorned vine whipped around and caught Karin's right arm, dragging her to the ground where she couldn't assist Sophie. 

She watched helplessly while the woman was caught by the plant's leaves, her legs kept in midair in a cruel manner. Karin tried to free herself, but the vine soon constricted her entire body from head to toe. It covered her mouth as well so she couldn't scream for assistance, displaying a frightening amount of intelligence. No! Aunt Catherine, where are you?! Karin struggled to free herself, but her exertion only served to tighten the grip of the plant. It continued to hold Sophie in the humiliating position as Karin could only watch in horror. She had to act quickly if she were to survive this ordeal. Unfortunately the plant had the foresight to disarm her, leaving her gun sitting several feet away. 

First, choose how Karin should try to escape:

A) Try to wriggle herself free from the vine, Karin's slender body might be able to break free with enough effort, but it put a massive strain on her to do so. (80% chance of success, -20% health, 30% chance of being devoured)

B) Reach for her handgun, Karin might be able to grab it if she maneuvers herself properly but it's quite risky to attempt. (60% chance of success, will lose no health, 60% chance of being devoured)

Assuming the first choice succeeds, what should Karin do if she frees herself:

C) Pry the plant's petals open, Karin could hopefully try to free Sophie before it retaliates, but she'd be placing herself at risk yet again. (40% chance of success, 60% chance to free Sophie if first roll succeeds, 50% chance of Karin being devoured)

D) Use her handgun to fire at the plant's bulb again, it seemed to cause it pain before so maybe Karin can injure it enough to save Sophie. (75% chance of success, 40% chance to free Sophie if first roll succeeds, 30% chance of Karin being devoured)

E) Leave Sophie behind, it's a terrible thing to do but Karin was trained to handle mutated plants. She needs to find Drake and get out of the manor as soon as she can. (Karin will leave Sophie behind and continue searching for Drake)

Well as you can see the last set of rolls resulted in a near catastrophic failure, so let's see how the next scene will turn out.
